genius. i found out today that i can get a wordpress app for my iphone, allowing me to post on the go. i am obviously a terrible blogger but now that i know i can do it on the go, much like tweeting, i expect to do much more blogging “from the road.”

Tomorrow I have my orientation at City College. I am really excited about starting school again and finishing my art history degree. What I do after that is still unclear. I’m almost 39 so starting over in a new field is challenging and scary, especially considering I’ve spent the past 10 years establishing myself as a graphic designer and art director. Thank goodness my monetary demands are small and I’m able to work a job now that pays 2/3 what I was making just six months ago, and one that allows me to give a lot of time to furthering my education.

I’m hoping to see Avatar for the third time this weekend. I can’t explain why I love this movie so much. Maybe it’s the incredible visual beauty of it or the incredible action, and I’m even a sucker for the probably hokey love story.

I watched a great doc tonight on Jeff Koons, an artist I am conflicted about. I was a big fan of his in the early 90s but his blatant attempt to recreate Warhol’s Factory leave me a bit cold to his most recent work, save “Puppy.” I loved “Puppy.”

in boston

I’m in Boston visiting friends this long weekend. I love this city. Sure it feels tiny compared to NYC but I love the air of sophistication and education that hangs over this town. So many colleges and universities right in the heart of the city.

We went to the Museum of Fine Arts yesterday which is terrific. My favorite  exhibit was a wall of 30 video screens, each with a different person, filmed individually, singing acapella the entire Madonna Immaculate Collection. Some even brought props (like a guy who wore a black shawl over his head when he sang Like A Prayer. Hilarious).

Last night I saw Avatar again, this time in IMAX. Just as thrilling as the first time.  I was very happy to hear it won the Golden Globe for best picture. Plus, it snowed like crazy last night. Not quite sure how long it’s going to take to get me back to New York.

home…

I am working from home now as of this week. It has been a mixed blessing.

I am a crazy morning person and I love being able to be at my computer by 6 working, when I feel I am at my most creative. And being able to take frequent breaks or run outside for a bit is fantastic as well.

However, I wasn’t prepared for how lonely being at home all day can become, and I have always prided myself on my independence. Putting on some jazz or talk radio in the background helps.

School starts at the end of this month and being in that environment a couple days a week will help. I’ll get all the human interaction I ever wanted, and then some.

Hoping to go see Avatar again this weekend, this time in IMAX, unless the snow and polar air expected force me to hibernate. So far, this has been the most wintry Winter since I first moved to NYC ten years ago. My 10 year anniversary in this amazing city was New Year’s Eve. I can’t believe I have been here that long. They say that after you’ve been here for 10 years, you are a real New Yorker, although I think the demands and trials of living here make you a native after just a few years. If you can make it 3 years, you’re good.
