the MoMA

I spent the morning at MoMA wandering the painting and sculpture galleries on floors 4 & 5. All the usual suspects were there but I was really thrilled to discover an artist new to me, Alexandra Exter. She was a Russian Constructavist. Also got to see my favorite painting in the world, I and the Village by Marc Chagall. Also loved seeing some of Jacob Lawrence’s Migration series.

Top chef tour

I was priveleged yesterday to go sit under the tent at the top chef tour. Much thanks to my friends Fred Haag and Heather Bennally for making it happen. There was a cooking section with two former contestants and then a part when the audience could ask questions about the show, gossip, cooking… I got an autographed copy of the top chef cookbook. After that we went for margaritas at dos caminos. It was a great day.

ICFF

It’s Design Week here in Gotham and I hit some of the opening parties last night. Always a bit of a mad house but I did see some great pieces at Areawear and Matter. Oh, and Future Perfect, actually, had some beautiful chairs and lighting. We tried to meet up with my friend Dan who is the Editor of Surface magazine but it got late quick, and we were starving. So I’ve done Soho and Noho. Tonight i’m hoping to hit the Meatpacking District and Chelsea. I also have to remember to bring my camera this time.

just got home from the cartier-bresson show at MoMA. it was fantastic and huge, broken down into the regions he shot in with a separate section for portraits. a great surprise was seeing the marina abramovic show, the controversial one with the naked models scattered throughout. there is something disarming about having a naked female, suspended christ-like on a wall, staring back down at you. i couldn’t help but avert my eyes. The artist herself is positioned at one end of a table in the museum’s atrium and guests can choose to sit across from her and meet her motionless gaze. the exhibit is called “the artist is present.” pretty brilliant stuff.

I’m headed to Miami Beach for a long weekend to celebrate turning 39 (cue tiny violins). Hopefully I’ll get some beach/pool time in but i think it’s supposed to rain most of Sunday. How great was the Glee premiere last week? I wonder how long it took Jane Lynch to learn those dance moves for Vogue? I’m really conflicted about Adobe CS5. I don’t even feel like I’ve mastered CS4 and they don’t offer upgrades to education versions for a discount. I think I’ll wait and see…

92 degrees in central park today! On April 7. Crazy!!! Word of the day: “chokle” is to laugh so hard you start coughing.

Hmmm…

The pen is mightier than the sword. Unless that sword is a lightsaber. Then all bets are off.

today turned into a glorious day here. my friend brent and i just got back from an hour long run on the beach. i’ve got a nice tan going already. now this is for real, i was running in his neighborhood yesterday and passed a house for sale. the name of the realtor was Dorita something-or-other and she was smirking at the camera holding a bag of Doritos. i love it. what a great sense of humor. i’m going to try to get a picture before i leave to post here.

Beach update

Not a great day for the beach. 72, windy and cloudy. Oh well, it’s still March and it will be 80 here on Saturday. I WILL come back to NYC with a tan even if I have to swim to Cuba to get it.
