I spent some time today updating my LinkedIn profile and checking out some of the groups, and joining a few. It seems like a terrific resource and networking tool I was blind to before. There are a ton of graphic design groups out there, some magazine/publishing specific.

Summer is winding down and I’m sad about it. I have had so much fun this summer: Trips to West Virginia, the beaches of Fire Island, the mountains, but it had to come to end at some point. I love Autumn, though, too. Especially here in New York. I can’t wait for the crunch of the leaves beneath my feet and the Procession of the Ghouls at St. John the Divine, and maybe even a trip upstate to Ulster County for the Headless Horseman Haunted Hayride.

The next couple days will be spent enjoying my last trips to the neighborhood pool, some Fringe Festival theatre, and probably some tutorials online.

…it’s been almost a month since I’ve posted. I’ve been busy traveling and enjoying the summer. I’ve been down to Shepherdstown, West Virginia three times. I saw some pretty great theatre while i was down there at the Contemporary American Theater Festival. My favorite show was called Breadcrumbs. It’s about a writer who is slowly succumbing to Alzheimer’s and it was a powerful, beautifully written and acted piece. I hope to see it again one day.
My friend Will is starting a theatre production company, possibly called Paperboy Productions. He’s enlisted me to do the logo. Here is an early idea, inspired by the newsies of early 20th Century America.

Paperboy Productions logo idea

There’s still lots of summer left to enjoy but I am getting excited about the two classes I am taking this Fall, Surrealism and a still photography course, both right up my alley. One month and counting until I take the GRE. I’m studying for the math section now and, well, it’s challenging, let me leave it at that. I hope to make it to MoMA tomorrow to check out the new Matisse exhibit so hopefully I’ll have a blog post to add about that tomorrow night. I certainly won’t wait another month to post again, although it’s not like anyone reads my blog (smiley emoticon).
Oh, and the new season of Mad Men! Delicious.

I spent the July Fourth holiday weekend in Ocean Grove, NJ with friends. This town is the gem of the Jersey Shore. The people seem to be friendlier than surrounding towns, and it’s the quintessential, charming Victorian jewel-box of a town. Had probably the best ice cream of my life and some great restaurants are in Asbury Park, right next door. It was HOT!, hovering around 95 the whole trip.

We did an Asbury Park gallery crawl Saturday night and saw some of the most interesting art I’ve seen in a while. It rivaled or surpassed a lot of what I’ve seen in Chelsea recently. BTW, the pics were snapped with my new iPhone4. Not bad. A huge improvement over the previous. I shot some videos as well and was really impressed with the quality.

Well I did it. Despite the reports of weird antenna issues I ordered my iPhone 4. The reason is simple. After upgrading my 3G to iOS4, the phone has been literally crawling. Texting is an effort in frustration. I have about a 1 second pause after typing each character. You can imagine how annoying this is when typing long sentences. Anyway, I’m excited. I played with a friend’s iPhone 4 over the weekend and it really is a beauty to behold. I look forward to being able to edit videos in iMovie, which I love, on my phone. Hopefully Verizon offering the phone come January will cause a lot of people to switch, freeing up a lot of AT&Ts bandwidth. Here’s hoping.

I was out until 1:30 last night doing to the East Village bar crawl to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I remember now why I don’t do that every weekend. When I was 29 it was easy, 39 not so much. Up today? Toy Story 3, the only movie I have been dying to see this summer (and the only one probably worth the ticket price).

I had some major drama last weekend when I found out my 3 year old MacBook (the cute black one) had somehow fallen off its shelf in my office and the LCD screen broke. The Apple store said it could be up to $750 to fix, so I did what any other Apple fan boy would do: I bought a new MacBook Pro. But hey, it came with a free iPod so how could I not?!? I don’t know what to name it. I feel I’ve exhausted all my cute computer names. My black MacBook was named Juice (as in Apple) and my iMac is named Jack (Jack the iMac—it rolls off of the tongue).

Coming up: I have to attend some Jazz concerts in the near future for school: probably the best homework assignment ever. The Vision Jazz festival starts tomorrow and there are a ton of interesting Jazz and Jazz-related events.

I bought the new Morcheeba album yesterday, Blood Like Lemonade. Sky Edwards has rejoined the group after a 7 year absence and this album is like the Morcheeba of old, of the Big Calm days. It’s gorgeous, especially the first four tracks. Crimson is my favorite track. It’s haunting and one of my favorite all-time songs by the band.

My summer class has started. It’s called Listening to Jazz and it’s very interesting but pretty hard. I haven’t read any music since I was around 12 or 13 and trying to learn the song forms and dissect the melodies is challenging. Love the music we’ve listening to in class, though, and it’s great learning about a music that is uniquely American in its roots.

Only three weeks to the big Jersey Shore Fourth of July trip and I’m stoked (fist pump!!!).
